For pregnant women: hypnosis for comfortable pregnancy and childbirth, including hypnosis for nausea and hyperemesis. For adults, teens, and children: hypnosis for medical, dental, and surgical procedures; pain relief; trauma reduction; coping with
illness and medical issues; stress relief; smoking cessation; and much more.
Some services may require a medical referral. Jan is also a professional speaker and provides some pro bono seminars and lectures.
BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
Jan, a retired speech communications college professor, has used and taught self-hypnosis and mental imagery techniques to individuals and groups for over twenty years. Today, she uses her medical hypnotherapy training to help clients overcome obstacles and create healthy, happy, and productive lives.

Jan has had the great fortune of living in Japan, Germany, and Puerto Rico for a total of 25 years and has traveled to many other countries. While living in Puerto Rico for 16 years, she learned to speak Spanish. Jan enjoys this international aspect of her life and believes it has enhanced the quality of her life while adding a unique flavor.
Spending time with her family is an important part of Jan’s life. Her husband Rick is an ardent supporter of her work in hypnosis. Together they travel and experience as much of life as possible. Their adult children and three of their grandchildren live nearby as well as several of Jan’s family members.

Contributing to her community is an important part of Jan’s life. When she lived in Puerto Rico, she was an active member of Altrusa International. In Florida, as a dedicated member of the Clearwater Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority she has worked on philanthropic projects, such as teaching digital photography to the Kids at the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation in Clearwater, Florida. She chaired the Breast Health Education Committee of the Pinellas Unit of the American Cancer Society, and she chaired the Health Education Committee of the Tampa Bay Research Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida. She continues to be a health advocate for both. Jan was an active member of the steering committee for the UNO Latin Film Festival 2002, and she coordinated many events for the college and community while working at St. Petersburg College.
In the 1980's, hypnotherapist David Segers taught Jan his theory about a new model of the brain and shared with her a unique technique to identify and heal areas in the brain that caused pain and suffering by activating endorphins. As she practiced the technique, she began to release negative emotions and heal her mind and body. She also began using positive imagery techniques she learned from the books of Norman Vincent Peale. Utilizing these techniques helped her deal more competently with difficult people and situations in life. After successfully using these techniques herself, she began teaching them to others.
David Segers used his theory and technique to help so many patients release negative and harmful emotions and heal deep wounds. However, not until Jan was diagnosed with breast cancer late in 1988 had he used the technique to heal the body in such an extraordinary way. Upon diagnosis, she immediately began to practice the same techniques she had learned from Segers and Peale as she continued with medical protocol. As she went through the traditional medical procedures for inflammatory breast cancer, she discovered there were few long term survivors. However, she was determined to survive. Her doctors were amazed when the breast was removed three months later and no inflammatory cancer cells were found. She attributed the positive diagnosis to the wonderful gift of healing Segers had given her. The most wonderful part of this story is that David Segers is Jan’s dear uncle. Uncle David has since passed on to be part of a higher universe, so now in loving memory Jan shares his gift with others by teaching them to heal themselves and to cope with life's difficult moments in professional and personal settings.
Jan narrated her experience with breast cancer in a free public seminar in June of 2001 and taught the audience how to use the techniques that had worked so effectively for her.
